Pinehurst #8

While Pinehurst #2 has more history to it, many golf enthusiasts say that Pinehurst #8 is the best golf vacation destination, among all the courses in Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina. Redesigned by Fazio in 1996, Pinehurst #8 was created with a layout that closely positions greens and teens together, making it more pleasurable to walk. The quality of its design is one of the reasons why it has hosted Club Pro Championships in 1997 and 1998, showing that its championship course delights just about anyone, especially the pros.

On the
Pinehurst #8, Blues that measures 6,698 yards has tee boxes with small plaque that defines the highlight of each hole. For example, the first hole shows an Audobon Signature Sanctuary, while the second hole, which is a 532 yard playing for par 5, shows evidences of Donald Ross traces, especially with the signature greenside bunkering. A wildlife museum can also be seen on hole 5, where Eastern Bluebirds, Screech Owls, and Bats reside. Next to it is the foremost handicap hole, a 584 yard par 5. More doglegs challenge uphill on the nine that can lead a golfer into a long second shot when playing straight. And there are more to the entire golf vacation package with another handicap hole on the 14th that truly puts a player’s strategy to the test.

The
Pinehurst #8 is obviously one nail-gritting experience, but its natural vistas, large wetlands and amazing wildlife, which are rare to the place, is something so appealing, that in turn, golfers do not only revisit the area during a tournament, but also go back for the scenery. To add to that, this golf trip location is just 2 miles from the historical Main Clubhouse, making it easy for guests to entirely learn the chronicles of the resort.

Pinehurst #6

In 1895, George Fazio, and his nephew Tom, designed the Pinehurst #6 to provide a contrast in topography with the other famous courses in Pinehurst Resort, especially the notable Pinehurst #2. Their intention was to create a dramatic site with various elevation changes and, by that, forming a unique golf course. With more rough terrain wreathed by woods and other dense vegetation, this golf vacation destination is also spectacled with water features that give more challenge to a play. While the back nine here is considered the most risky endeavor among the line of Pinehurt’s courses, it is expectantly the most sought after. Guests never fail to visit this course for that reason.

Because of the large number of guests, more establishments have installed shops here, which provided convenience for both business owners and golf enthusiasts. In fact, Pinehurst #6 is the perfect go-to for a golf vacation because it is where the largest Medial Facilities are significantly near the playing field. For easy accommodations, the Northern edge of Pinehurst, NC is where the Homes reside. The Sandhills Largest Hospital, Doctor’s Offices, Attorney Offices, Health Club and Banks are also a walk away. Down the road, there are National Big Band Retail Outlets including the Staples, Wal-Mart and Best Buy.

Now at the south of Pinehurst #6, particularly on 15/501, guests can find the more appealing and reliable stores. For one, there is the famous ‘Olmsted Village’ which is a new shopping and business office area. Another is the Lowe’s Food Store and the Eckerds Drug Store that allow guest to purchase needs without having to go through all the hassle. More restaurants and shops follow on this line. Truly, this golf trip location is made to satisfy every golfer’s needs.

One unique golf vacation characteristic any player would experience in this course is that it is never too easy to lose a ball during a round. The classical layout makes ultimate playability, but the monster par-4 with double-crowned green angled to the right, defines Pinehurst #2 as one of the toughest part of the entire resort. This course is not easy, and that aspect draws golfers to love it more. That is why it became a site for U.S. Open Championships in 1999 and 2005.

The rippling layout present in Pinehurst #2 is complimented with a strategic placement of bunkers that surely sets both long and short games. Talking Stick – South Course

Teaming up to design a magical golf vacation destination is what Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw did when they created the Talking Stick – South Course. Owned by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, this location is one of two main golf courses in the area, together with the Talking Stick – North Course. Compared to the tie-in style of the North Course, the South Course displays traditional atmosphere with tree-lined fairways. Here is where players can find sides of the course defending the elevated greens that provide for a more direct playing approach.

The sophisticated golf vacation that Talking Stick – South Course provides is the primary reason why it has landed as Golfweek Magazine’ Top 100 Modern Courses from 1999 to 2002. The location’s fame ascended to another level as it became Golf Magazine’ Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play and Best Public Course in the State according to South Golfweek in 2002 and 2003. Finally, Golf Digest Surveys rated the course with 4 1/2 stars consistently in 2004 and 2005.

The National

The National at the Reynolds Plantation, Georgia is known to be a Tom Fazio masterpiece with its 27-hole long and narrow plays emerging through a forest of eminent pines and colorful dogwoods that frames the actual golf course. Designed in 1997, this golf vacation destination shows magnificent elevations, exciting views and many holes that touch the skirting Lake of Oconee. In fact, “amazing” is an understatement to call this sight.

The impenetrable forest of hardwoods and pines gives a dramatic atmosphere to the topography. Hundreds of bunkers, several holes enclosed along the shores and large ruffling greens give players of The National less room to stumble upon errors. Using the natural splendor of the land mixed with expert golf architectural management skills, Fazio created this golf trip location to challenge all types of players. That is the reason why it landed at the 100 Must-Play Courses of Georgia as rated by GolfStyles Magazine in 2007. The course also made it as America’s Best Resort Courses at the GolfWeek Magazine in 2006.

With an impressive designer and hospitable Reynold Plantation community, it is no surprise why The National remained as a sought after place in Georgia. Reynold folks consistently continue to have the patience and earnestness to maintain the area. Baytree National

Built in 1992 at Melbourne, Florida, this Gary Player designed golf vacation destination is a field playing for par-72 with a spread of enjoyable fairways and water features. Conquering the wetlands and lakes will make players ask for more. The layout has a competitive atmosphere that reflects the architect’s course management skills. Aside from the golf, Baytree also prides for its sightly clubhouse and deli-style restaurant that has one of the most efficient customer service.

Zagat also threw high marks to this golf trip destination. Consistently, Baytree has also earned more awards like the title as Best of Brevard for the past two years. No wonder Washington Nationals has made Baytree its spring training home for many years.

Vasari Country Club

Experiencing a classical golf vacation experience is authentic when it’s in the Vasari Country Club. Inspired by the Renaissance Italian artist, Giorgio Vasari, the club recaptures the age of enlightenment with a magnificent plan of over 375 acres of natural preserves and 40-acre panoramic view of a lake. Maintaining the sophisticated architecture, the location was renovated by Billy Fuller adding more challenging pastures in all 18 holes of the championship golf course.

The Vasari Country Club provides an experience of delicately sculptured terrain along with an array of recreational activities. Aside from the competitive atmosphere, a golf trip enthusiast can experience the 6 Har-Tru lighted tennis courts and the fitness center with innovative amenities. For those who want to lay low from a mind blowing game, there are other facilities like the massage therapy room and swimming pool with spa to go to. The place truly lives with its vision to make Vasari “a magnificent blend of friendly neighborhoods within a unique and beautiful residential golf and country club community; where members enjoy resort-style amenities and take pride in living the good life.”

But what defines outstanding to this golf vacation destination is the two-story Vasari Country Club clubhouse that seems to float buoyantly on the shores of the 40-acre lake. Upon entry, the clubhouse already welcomes a Mediterranean atmosphere that extends to the entire main dining room, grill room, dance floor, board room, and private dining room. The area shows a spectacular lake view of the golf course and the bridges and fountains that adorn it. Resting on the Taverna with a book from the in-house library is also a good idea that Vasari guests have been known to do in this sought after location.
