Bayonet at Puppy Creek Golf Club

Situated between Fayetteville and Pinehurst, the Bayonet Golf Club at Puppy Creek is one of the state’s leading public golf courses.  Designed by Willard Byrd, this 18-hole golf vacation destination was seamlessly designed to allow the turfgrass to perfectly blend with the area’s rolling hills. Byrd has designed golf courses for over 40 years, and among his notable masterpieces include McGregor Downs (Cary), Gates Four (Lafayetteville) and Country Club of North Carolina (Pinehurst).

The Bayonet at Puppy Creek Golf Club is a 20-acre championship course which features 5 sets of tees, and is designed for golfers of all skill levels. From the longest tees, it offers 7,036 yards for a par of 72. There are 60 bunkers, and water comes into play on just a few holes. The course’s bentgrass greens are firm but not too heaving and the fairways are generally wide.  This ideal golf vacation destination also provides 10 target greens, a chipping area, driving range, practice bunker and putting greens.

The Bayonet at Puppy Creek Golf Club opened to the public in 1995, and is operated by Carolina Turf farms Inc. The club’s management has successfully combined resources to make it the region’s premier public golf facility, as well as to ensure that tournament-conditions are always in place every day. Many golfers today hail the Bayonet golf course as Sandhill’s “best-kept secret”, while some call it the “golf lover’s dream”. The facility has a course rating of 74.0 and a slope rating of 134 on Bermuda grass. This course should also make an ideal golf vacation package option, because rates are adjusted seasonally, and don’t go beyond $50 during the year. Bayonet also hosts fun events such as the Hooters Tour series every July.
