Considered as the Valley of the Sun’s well kept secret, the Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club was ingeniously designed by Robert Trent Jones II, a renowned golf course architect. What was once a prehistoric desert property has now turned into a uniquely-designed desert style golf course that continues to fascinate both golf enthusiasts as well as the lovers of nature.
This golf club also features the subtly contoured greens, the ample fairways, and the rolling combinations of holes that come in various difficulty levels. The layout can be very playable but it is strategic enough to test the skills even that of the experienced golfers. Effective course-management techniques are necessary in order to complete a successful round. The Jones team designed the entire layout without altering the desert’s natural character offering each golfer the taste of the area’s historic significance.
While on play, golfers will come across an easy warm-up from the front nines that leads to the risk/rewarding 2nd hole that is framed by water down at the right. The rest of the front nine holes will take the golfers all the way through a rejuvenated open desert that culminates a par-4 play along a large lake on the “Watering Hole” #9. The back nine on the other hand offers the true desert golfing test as it finds its way into Willow Wash’s dense desert vegetation. The challenge starts at “The Peak” #11 where golfers must go through a lengthy hole that goes with the dense desert. To add up to the challenge, Acacia trees and Ironwood line the narrow fairways. The #18, known as the “Bird Bath” provides the final stretch of water.
