The PGA National Resort and Spa

These tournament-ready golf layouts provide golfers of all ability levels with golfing at its finest. Famed golf course architects and designers like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, George Fazio, Tom Fazio, and Karl Litten took advantage of Florida’s vast natural landscape in order to come up with their own golf gems. The Champion, The Palmer, The Squire, The Haig, and The Estates are the emerald green layouts in the resort that has been home to an array of golf championships.

The Champion Course, originally designed by the renowned Tom and George Fazio, was Florida Golfcreated for major tournament plays. The layout features the accepting and spacious tif-eagle greens, generous landing areas, and the five sets of tees. To add up to the challenges, Nicklaus added “The Bear Trap” which spans through 3 demanding holes. This trap was cited by USA Today as “one of the toughest stretches in golf”.

The 2nd layout featured in the resort is The Palmer Course. This layout was named after the famed Arnold Palmer who also designed this challenging layout. The Palmer has been considered as the resort’s most forgiving as well as a risk reward course. It features the considerable amount of undulations, open fairways, and the accommodating “Champion Bermuda” greens with its 18th hole as the resort’s most scenic par-5’s.

Florida GolfThe 3rd layout is The Squire Course. This Tom and George Fazio masterpiece has been hailed as the most exacting and shortest among the PGA National courses. Serving as the ultimate test for precision and accuracy, The Squire is ringed by natural environmental areas with the rich native vegetation that has been attracting an abundance of wildlife. It was named after the golf sensation Gene Sarazen.

The 4th featured layout is The Haig which was designed by the dynamic Fazio duo. This layout was named after the golf legend Walter Hagen and the resort’s first golf facility that opened for play. Being the PGA National’s third-longest course, The Haig features the 6,806 yards of play that was rated with the highest difficulty from the standard tees. Golfers are no longer required to have the forced carries since the layout is free from the crossing water hazards.
